Helen Longworth
RADA trained actor/singer/musician & composer based in the North West of Lancashire.
Actor
Originally from Preston, Lancashire, I gained a BA(Hons) in Theatre, Film & Television Studies at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth.
I then trained for 3 years on the full time Acting Diploma Course at RADA.
On graduating from RADA I won the Carleton Hobbs Radio bursary and spent a year as a member of the BBC Radio Drama Company, clocking up hundreds of plays for radio 4. This job also led me to be cast as Hannah Riley in BBC’s The Archers, a role which I still play today over a decade later.

Musician & Composer
As my career has gone along I have found that music has played an increasingly important part in what I do. I trained in the flute from my teens, progressing through the grades and for theatre work I have picked up lots of other skills including guitar, uke, a bit of sax and am currently learning electric double bass. I usually have a new instrument of some kind leaning on a wall at home.
My work as a composer for theatre began with several years’ work on Christmas show, ‘Deck The Hall’ in Lancaster Castle (Demi Paradise Theatre Co). Most recently, I composed both live music and recorded tracks for my own ACE-funded shows ‘Ladies That Bus’ and ‘Ladies That Dig’, which toured to great success in 2020 and 2023.
I also created & composed the music for children’s online stop-motion animation, ‘Rockpool’ in 2021.
I have basic editing skills and, thanks to a DYCP grant during lockdown from Arts Council, England, the equipment to record to a professional standard from my home. Recording work from there includes plays for BBC Radio 4, voiceovers, Audiobooks for Oakhill & Hachette and the original cast album of Ladies That Dig.
Live Music/Gigs
In addition to my work as an actor, I am fortunate to have a superb network of talented musical folk around me and have sung/played with numerous bands in a variety of styles over the years. Contact me if you are looking for live music for an event, be it a 2 or 3 piece jazz band for background music; a live acoustic set of guitar/vocal covers or a larger band to get the party started and I’ll see what I can do!
